Which SharePoint application should I get for my iPhone/iPad?

Which SharePoint application should I get

Which SharePoint application should I get

So far I’ve mainly focused my reviews on the Lite/free versions on the SharePoint applications identified in my original post. I’m only just getting started with reviewing the full versions and adding a few extras into the backlog.

Free time has been one limitation. Underestimating the work involved is another but I’ve also been waiting on updates to Filamente and SharePlus before getting stuck in. Filamente has just been updated so I hope the SharePlus update will also released soon (still with Apple to approve).

Looking at the traffic coming to the site and specifically the search queries that are bringing people here, there are recurring themes of “which is best” or “this app vs that app”.

I have to say that I still have other applications to review so this article is done at a point in time and I reserve the right to change my mind later. Right now, I’m doing this post based on having looked at products by Aircreek, Colligo, Moprise and Infragistics. It will be interesting to see if other applications that do not require server-side installation or configuration change my thoughts at a later date.

In my opinion, the choice of which application is best will always be a personal decision. Stuff I like won’t necessarily be liked by someone else and vice versa. Also, individual needs and preferences will also have a say in which way to go. In this post, I’m going to try to set out my personal opinions in the hope that it may help others with their decision.

Outside 107% rule

OK, I’m excited by the return of Formula One and this is my weak attempt at humour.

Of the applications reviewed so far, those developed by Moprise don’t do it for me personally and don’t come close to other vendor products that I’ve reviewed. Based on what I’ve seen, they don’t make the qualification cut (outside 107%) and I won’t personally invest my money in upgrading to the Pro version of their applications to write reviews.

Moshare just didn’t work for me in the testing I did. In writing this article I’ve actually found that the application appears to have been removed from the App Store!

I also struggled with the Moprise application as well. Whilst I can understand that to focus on one aspect e.g. Shared Documents allows work to be of higher quality I struggled with aspects of the application and the UI. I also feel the usefulness of this application will be lost as soon as working with more than documents is needed.

I also found and reported a security issue to Moprise. Unlike other vendors, they’ve failed to acknowledge that the problem needs fixing and confirm an update to the product is on the way (please note: Filamente is now updated with a fix and SharePlus will be in the v3 release awaiting Apple approval. Colligo Briefcase didn’t have the problem).

I started drafting a review of Coaxion but have had to park that so far as I’m really struggling to get my head around that application. It too has the same security issue but I also had other problems with the application constantly getting stuck creating a PDF that I didn’t ask for nor did I want.

Hello there. Excellent resource in regards to iOS and SP2010. I have clients that specifically ask about iOS support, and this is a very thorough, informative guide (website) I will utilize. Hats off. I see this growing in popularity quickly as SP2010 adoption increases. Metro support with SP2010 should be very interesting as well.

Quick question, any luck with 70-667? Interested in hearing any info on the current state of the exam if you have any. I’ve begun preparing myself and there is indeed a lot of new stuff with SP1.

    Cheers.

Nice article. You should try SPtoGO for SharePoint on iPhone. It has a nice interface and seems to work well. I like the fact that I can upload a photo of a whiteboard to the team site’s image library right from the camera. It seems like the other apps are just SharePoint browser apps and don’t really fit in the iPhone.
